Herb Profile : Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)

I love this herb so much I named my cat after it. Meli is Greek for honey and bees are strongly attracted to these flowers. Melissa is extremely easy to grow and very pleasant as a fresh infusion and a popular addition to calming/relaxing herbal tea mixtures. It has particular affinity for the digestive tract where its relaxing, antispasmodic action eases flatulence, colic and dyspepsia where it can be combined with peppermint. It is also applicable for irritable bowel and any intestinal spasm.

I have personally found it also invaluable in cases of depression and anxiety and a whole range of different nervous problems.
